SOUVENERS

These books were great souvenirs of a trip to Yosemite National Park over the Yosemite Valley railroad. The books were filled with pictures of the route to El Portal, the Del Portal hotel and various views of the Yosemite Valley and it surroundings.

Both books were tied with string and had embossed soft covers. The book by Lehmer had sketches, photographs, and contained text. It also carried the Yosemite Valley Railroad Company herald on the back cover and throughout its pages. It was authored by Mr. O. W. Lehmer, general manager of the railroad and published in 1913. It measured 11.25 by 8.25 inches and sold for $1.00.

The other book was all photogravures without text, except to identify the each picture. It did not have an authors name, but published for The Denison News Co. by the Ambertype Co. Brooklyn N.Y. It had a 12.5 by 10.5 inch format.

Both of these books contained 24 pages. Passengers could buy them at the Merced and El Portal depots or on board the train.
