Yosemite Cut Off By Water

A virtual cloudburst near Arch Rock resulted in Yosemite National park being completely isolated today. All telephone and telegraph lines are down and no direct word has been received here from the park. Radio communication between Yosemite and outside points was interrupted by failure of the power plant.
It was not known definitely how many persons were in Yosemite but a food shortage is not believed probable if roads are not cleared immediately.
The Merced river is reported to have overflown its banks near Indian Flat, covering the All-year highway in several places, it was reported here by W. L. White, manager of the Yosemite Valley railroad.
The Merced river has washed out a portion of the Yosemite Valley railroad bridge this side of Bagby, 48 miles from Merced, reports here late today indicated.
No Message
William C. Veyl, railroad dispatch agent here confirmed the reports. Phone connections were washed out and Veyl said the railroad company here has been unable to obtain any message in regard to the washout.
However, train service to the valley will be tied up for two days, he said. A maintenance crew is at the scene of the washout. They will be unable to do any repair work until the river goes down.
At Emory, the Yosemite Valley railroad tracks were reported washed out. Veyl said 20 rails there are under water. Along the Merced river the tracks were under water and the river swept up along the All-year highway.

(More information about the flood and a rescue of a prospector - nothing about the Y.V.R.R.)
