Chester F Awalt High School was located in Mountain View California. Awalt High served the community for decades under that name until 1981. When the 'old' Mountain View High School on Castro Street was closed in 1981, the powers that be changed the name of Awalt High School to Mountain View High School. The old Mountain View High was torn down and "The New Mountain View High" became the sole source of public high school instruction in the city.

With the name change came a 'change of flavor' to the school as well... Though Awalt's mascot 'The Spartans' replaced 'The Eagles' as Mountain View High School's mascot and the Awalt building still stood... something had changed. No longer was Awalt the quiet 'elite' school for the more affluent, it was now Mountain View's only high school and busloads of students were brought in from all across the city. The tone and flavor of the school changed and though favorite teachers like Denny Devine, Hal Partelow, Steve Hope, and John Reisdorf stayed on, the students could tell you that after this class graduated things would never be the same again...

The class of 1981 was the last class to graduate from "Awalt High".
