CMP M1 Garand Match Grade Ammunition

The first 2 boxes we cracked open contained the 400 round Match-Grade ammo cans. This was to prove very good ammo when we sent it down the barrel of the M1 Garand Rifles we had purchased.

When we opened the cases we found each box contained one can of ammo. The large metal ammo boxes (which alone can cost 10 bucks in surplus stores were brand new and in superb condition. The printing on the side of the cases marked in bright yellow was clear and readable. It detailed the contents of the can including the lot number of the ammo as well as other more generic information.

30 Caliber Garand Ammunition

Inside the Match-Grade ammo cans we found 20 neatly stacked and packed individual boxes of Match Ammo. Each of these white boxes contained 20 cartridges. The ammo was neatly inserted in the original Lake City boxes and they too were factory sealed. A handy little piece of webbing was wrapped around one of the middle boxes to make it easy to pull the box out.

Match Grade M1 Garand Ammo

The ammunition itself was quite acceptable. The target below was shot with one of our CMP M1s by someone who had never before fired an M1 Garand Rifle. The range distance was 100 yards and they had used peep sights only a couple of times before. Hardly a scientific test, but the 24 rounds represented here were enough to make the shooter happy.

Target Peppered from Garand

After opening the match ammo we turned our attention to the CMP Ball ammo we had ordered for our M1 Garand Rifles....
